Meet the first Skate Team backed by a NFT project

DEEBIES is a NFT project that resulted from the partnership between NiftyCastle.io, founded in January 2021 by Rich Beeman and Damian Bosiacki (known in the metaverse as Gifdead and Woahboy), and Toronto-based illustrator Sketchnate. It has been a huge success, selling over $1 million and amassing over 1000 unique collectors, being sold out at the moment.

But what makes this NFT project different from any other? Several things, but the fact that it is now backing a skate team clearly stands out. As a matter of fact, the DEEBIES Skate Team is making its debut and they have just announced the first element of their roster: Santana Saldana, an emerging skater from Long Beach, CA.

NiftyCastle.io is a community that encompasses everyone looking to explore the potential of NFTs as a new creative tool. Together with Sketchnate, they have created DEEBIES, which consists of a collection of over 3000 handmade NFTs.

Each NFT also brings derivative rights to the respective character, and also unique descriptions for each character. DEEBIES is the first of its scale to be entirely handmade art, with all its pieces of art made by hand without a pipeline program. It was so successful that they are currently sold out.

DEEBIES Skate Team is the first skating team to be backed by a NFT project, clearly setting a landmark for both this sport and the NFT industry. Saldana is also somewhat of a pioneer, and shared his excitement over this ground-breaking move:

“Excited to be starting this new chapter with DEEBIES. We are stepping into a new industry where skateboarding connects us, and to be the first – that is pretty profound in my book.”

The future seems quite bright for DEEBIES. Not only has it been sponsoring several NFT events in Los Angeles and New York, and was recently present in the 2021 edition of Art Basel Miami, there are planned collaborations with well known NFT artists like Gabe Weis, Sickpencil, and Ali Sabet. Furthermore, the future of the DEEBIES Skate Team will also surely be quite interesting to follow.
